The Countdown
So I have how many days left? Oh man. Four. And a few concentration pieces to go and photos to take. But I'm really excited because I think I can get my first piece done tomorrow! Initially I wanted to do a chaotic scene of the Alice in Wonderland tea party with the tablecloth being pulled off and the tea set flying around. But then I thought it would be a lot easier, and different, to do a picture of a little girl having tea with her stuffed animals. I had my neighbor Isabelle come over and model for me with my old rabbit and bear, who, thanks to the old WOA project, had a top hat to wear. Above is the shot I'm using. Again, I started out thinking I would do this in pastel and make it fairly realistic, but then I started getting really lose and the picture became more cartoony. I really liked breaking the image down, and I thought the style would fit the content, which is why I intend to animate the photo and then do watercolors over top. I've never worked with water colors, but I'm really excited although it may be a struggle!

Can't wait to see how it turns out! I'm doing some watercolors too (and struggling). They're fun, but pretty unforgiving. I love the hat, by the way.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks Amy! I actually finished today. I KNOW: this is most definitely a first. NEVER have I finished a piece this quickly. I guess I kind of cheated by drawing out everything first so I only had to worry about staying inside of the lines, but it is definitely still a challenge. I am also excited to see your piece, I always love your work, especially your perspective in all of your pieces!
ReplyDeleteooooh exciting! your neighbor is super cute and that is a great picture! i am glad you are having fun experimenting with different media. i am looking forward to seeing how it turned out!
ReplyDeleteAww, this is adorable. The picture is great too, with the old fashioned teapots, grandfather clock, top hat (Isabelle made a good Alice). Excited to see the finished piece!
ReplyDeleteSo I think I was absent when you did your critique... but I really want to see this! I feel like you do a lot of realistic pieces (that are amazing) so it's fun that you tried something more abstract/cartoony! You are awesome.
