Spring Breakkkk

I went to California over Spring Break. Unfortunately the usual sunshine frequenting places such as San Luis Obispo, Clairemont, Malibu and Los Angeles, it was raining and pouring for the whole week! Maybe it was somewhat sunny the day we went to Malibu, but for the majority of the time the weather was Meh... Luckily our trip was still great! My family and I went on a college tour to Cal Poly, Westmont, Pomona, Pepperdine, LMU, UC Davis and Santa Clara (which we ended up skipping because it was raining). I really liked Pepperdine despite the fact it was on top of a very large hill and I fell in love with my tour guide. His name is Tyler and he's majoring in Sports Medicine. He was also an avid Harry Potter fan, played intramural volleyball and was in one of the school's plays. On top of that, Tyler had gone on a mission trip to Fiji and was drop dead gorgeous. If only he wasn't in college... or if only I wasn't in high school. But true love conquers all, so we'll see. I also met some really interesting people when I was with my God Mother and Sister in Pacifica (which is right near San Francisco). Two women I talked to were artists; one was an art major who was into printmaking and sculpting, and the other was a self-taught painter. The painter, Nancy, explained to me that after a short trip to Tibet she was inspired to recreate their goddess Tara. I saw her work and it was AMAZING. It took her six months to paint Tara using five hair brushes! The detail was so ornate and intricate, even I was in disbelief. But more interesting than her painting was Nancy's career. She read poetry and short articles for a San Francisco journal and then illustrated her interpretations of the authors' work. Overall I felt very inspired hearing of the different paths people have followed throughout his or her life and was instilled with a new sense of passion and determination to pursue my interests. I am still working on my pieces.... but I'm excited to hear about everyone's Spring Break tomorrow!

March Post

I don't really know what to write... I am up to my ankles in clothes and art supplies that I have yet to clean up. My room looks like an atomic bomb went off. But more importantly I need to figure out my concentrations for this month. I am still finishing up my collage from last month, so I am trying to think of something quick and easy. But I'm pretty sure quick and easy are two words that are not in my vocabulary. I am thinking about acrylics, but I don't know if I will have any time to paint over spring break (we are looking at a BAZILLION colleges in California). I also need to figure out how to make a spreadsheet of my work... man o man...
